Like waxing or shaving, sugaring hair removal is a method of removing excess hair from different parts of your body. The main difference from waxing is that sugaring is a less painful process when compared to waxing and that you can prepare the stuff to be applied at home.

This can be applied in two forms. You can either use the sugaring product in the form of a paste at room temperature or as a gel after heating it in a microwave. This is believed to be an ancient Egyptian technique.

The sugaring product can be applied by both men and women on almost any part you want your hair removed. However, men should avoid using this application on their beards as the hair growth in beards is different. Also, the hair length should be at least about 0.25 inches or 6 mm.

Long hairs must be trimmed to get best results from this application. Initially, you will have to do this repeatedly once on four to six months. If done this way periodically, hair follicles will start becoming weaker. Very soon, it will become easier for you to remove the hair.

This sugaring mixture can be easily prepared at home. All that you have to do is to heat a mixture of two cups of sugar, a quarter cup of water, and a quarter cup of lime juice in a saucepan. Care must be taken to see that the mixture is heated a quarter cup of water, and a quarter cup of lime juice in a saucepan.

Care must be taken to see that the mixture is heated only till it is warm and does not get very hot. If it becomes hot, you will often have to wait till it cools down. To check if the warmth is enough, pour a few drops of the mixture on your palm. If it appears to be hot, wait for it to cool further.

Sugaring hair removal falls under the epilation category of hair removal. When this method is used, hair is removed along with its roots from beneath the skin. This is the main way in which it is different from shaving and also more preferred than the latter.

Ensure that the area you are going to apply the sugary paste is clean and dry before you apply it. Use a towel to dry the skin very well and check that there are absolutely no traces of any oils or creams. Apply some talcum powder on the area the paste is going to be applied so that it does not hurt during the pulling.

Using a blunt instrument, apply a thin layer of the cooled sugar paste uniformly on your skin with the edge of the instrument and not using the flat side (think of a flat spoon). Now, cover the applied area with softly woven cotton fabric and let it stay for some time. Remember to leave a small bit of the fabric loose without contact with the paste.

You can use this bit to hold on to the fabric for pulling it off. Apply the mixture in the same direction as your hair grows. Remove the fabric quickly in one swift motion just like how you will remove a bandage. This must be done in the opposite direction. When pulling, you must not lift the fabric in the upward direction. Also, hold the skin firmly so that it does not loosen when you pull the hair.

You can store any leftover mixture and use it later after reheating it. You must remember that when you reheat the mixture, the paste will start thickening. If you are reheating the mixture by placing it in a container of hot water, you must take care to ensure that water does not get into the paste. This is because the sugar paste will dissolve in water and become useless.
