First dates can sometimes turn out to be nightmares that are best forgotten. If you’re having a first date with a new partner, try to give it some thought and consideration and try to be a little more creative or it might just turn out to be the last one with her/him.
For instance, if you have just three hours to spare, cramming in a two-and-a-half hour with a movie would not be a very good idea. You would hardly get the chance to get acquainted with each other. On the other hand, the first date is not an occasion where you would want to be stuck staring into each other’s faces throughout the date.
A good idea would be to start off with a lunch or coffee. You could even try out a trip to the zoo. If you’re going for lunch, try to pick a good restaurant with good aesthetics and book the seats in advance.
Try to get corner seats to give your more privacy. Other choices are going out for a dance or a game. You can go to a club where the music and food are great or go for a game of snooker or bowling, if you both enjoy that sort of activity.
Regarding topics for discussion during your first date, there are plenty of general things you could discuss or you could even start off on a personal note by asking your date about the last relationship. Whatever be the topic of discussion, see that the other person is comfortable with the topic.
Try to say something nice and complimentary about your date’s dress or hairdo, but take care not to go over the top with the compliments, or you could end up sounding insincere. Try to find something that you genuine like about your date so that you mean it and your face and voice shows it.
Take care to be on your best behavior in regard to manners, kindness, and generosity and so on. Always thank the date at the end of the evening or lunch. Good manners never go out of fashion. Try not to be too self-centered and try to talk more about the other person. Try to pay attention to her likes, desires, tastes and so on.
Don’t let your attention wander while your date is talking, even if she/he’s boring you. Try not to be preoccupied with your office work, previous relationships and try not to compare your date with your ex girl/boyfriend. Allow the conversation to flow naturally. You can make your first date a special one by being innovative and adding that special zing to it.
All in all, be yourself. Now I know that this advice is one of the most clichéd sounding things in the world but it is true. If you are someone else, then you will continue to have to play that role every single time you go out with this person. If you suddenly revert to being yourself after say that 4th or 5th date then that person will be in for a shock. So it is better to be yourself from the start. That way, you don’t end up wasting anyone’s time and hurting any feelings.
