People decide if they like someone in the first 30 seconds of meeting them. Have you ever heard that before? I have heard similar variations as well such as – women decide to sleep with someone within the first 5 seconds of meeting them or bosses decide to hire an employee within the first 30 seconds of the interview.

I am not sure what the exact number of seconds are for bosses, women, men and grandmas but the lesson to be learned from these statements is that first impressions of very important if not crucial to social success.

So here are three things to remember to always make your first impressions count -

  1. Trim That Nose Hair Guys and Wax Those Lip Whiskers Ladies - Yup, if you don’t take care of yourself then people are instantly turned off by you. Imagine trying to have a romantic conversation with someone who has a giant hair coming out of their nose that trembles with each mighty nostril exhalation or think about how it would feel to go in for that first kiss, miss slightly and find that you are tasting the lady’s moustache. In this crazy world, we are in control of a very few things and personal appearances are one of them, so take care of how you look!
  2. Try to Keep Smiling - People are naturally attracted to smilers. If you love to smile, people will approach you. If you are in a bad mood, then you will not get approached. Who wants to deal with the likes of you? So if you are looking to meet that special someone, then you have to always be smiling. Welcome other people in your space so you can interact with them. Don’t let your aura be negative. People love happy people.
  3. Don’t Badmouth Other People - If you are a hater then people will not like you. If you are always complaining about other people behind their back, people will consider you to be untrustworthy. When on a first date, don’t talk badly about your family or friends and when on a first job interview don’t talk trash about your old boss. Yes, you may have hated them all but whinging is not classy.

Follow these simple tips and you will always make a good first impression. And if the statistics about the number of seconds are right then this should make your success rate in meeting, dating and working with new people skyrocket.
